Behavioural media agency Total Media has promoted Tom Laranjo to CEO at Total Media London.

Laranjo is stepping up from his role as Managing Director at Total Media, a position he has held for over a decade.

Under Laranjo’s leadership, the agency has experienced astronomical growth and following the economic downturn caused by Covid in 2020, billings have since rebounded by 54%.

One of Laranjo’s key achievements is championing evidence-based behavioural planning.

Beginning as a personal passion, owing to his background in anthropology, Laranjo spearheaded bringing the discipline of evidence-based observation into media planning.

This has been a key differentiator for Total Media in the last 15 years and has helped the agency win major household names including Paysafe, De’Longhi and Britbox.

Laranjo was a key driver in Total Media achieving B-Corp status in 2021, becoming the first independent media agency in the UK to receive this accreditation.

The agency now gives clients the option to run completely carbon neutral campaigns and is the first independent media agency in the UK to offer this service.

This reflects Total Media’s commitment to operating at the highest standards of environmental performance.

In 2019, Laranjo oversaw the launch of the Behave consultancy as part of the Total Media Group, which now advises clients across a range of behavioural issues outside of media planning with clients including TikTok, the FT and MG Motors.

In the same year, Total Media moved from its Kensington HQ to modern, open-plan offices in Soho, home to over 130 of the business’ 150+ employees.

Stepping into this new role, Laranjo will be responsible for growing Total Media London, including further developing our behavioural planning offer, and supporting the growth of our Behave consultancy.

Laranjo’s promotion will also see Group CEO, Guy Sellers’ role now focus more on developing the group of companies which include Total Media Ltd., Total Media Connect, Running Total and Total Mediaplus.

This will involve growing the group’s offer in the UK  and also Internationally which now accounts for nearly half of revenues.

Commenting on his appointment, Laranjo said: “I’m really proud to be marking the next chapter of my journey with Total in this new role.

“Having been a part of the business for over 15 years, it’s testament to the brilliance of our people that I’m as excited and motivated as ever.

“Our proposition around behavioural planning has gone from strength to strength as clients recognise our unique ability to understand and tap into consumer needs.

“With a leadership team and talent base second to none, I am looking forward to our growth as we continue producing high quality work for our clients that has real impact on behaviour.”

Guy Sellers, Group CEO at Total Media Group said: “Tom has been responsible for a hugely successful transformation of our business and it’s just the beginning.
“He has implemented exciting changes in his role as TML’s MD, and is absolutely the right leader for what’s next.

“As a Group, we’re really pleased with the business performance, especially in the last year, and I’m looking forward to seeing how this restructuring assists us through our next phase of development.”
