Slimer lens: Sony Pictures launches Ghostbusters Snapchat AR creative

Sony Pictures has launched an interactive Snapchat augmented reality (AR) Slimer Lens campaign to promote the upcoming film Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.

AR Slimer Lens

The AR Slimer Lens will prompt Snapchatters to answer a video call from the Ghostbusters and chat with Trevor (played by Finn Wolfhard). As they chat, Snapchatters will see themselves transformed into the franchise’s iconic green ghost character Slimer.

The lens leverages Snap’s augmented reality camera tech to complete the Slimer transformation. It can be accessed via the Snapchat Lens Carousel, by scanning the below Snapcode, or by visiting the Ghostbusters Public Profile.

A second version of the lens, without the video call, is also now live here.

The video ad features movie characters Trevor (Finn Wolfhard), Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), and Lucky (Celeste O’Connor) joining a Snapchat video call to uncover the mystery of who Slimed the dressing room, which you can watch here.

Elana Sulzer, US Head of Entertainment at Snapchat, said: “Ghostbusters is a beloved franchise and we were thrilled to collaborate with Sony Pictures to create something that references the nostalgic “Who you gonna call?” line, but also feels fresh and imaginative for the newest film.

“By bringing the iconic Slimer character to life with AR and tapping three of the film’s stars to do a Snapchat video call, it was the perfect way to immerse our audience in this supernatural world.

“And featuring our iconic ghosts, Slimer and Snapchat’s Ghostface Chillah, was such a fun way to top off our work together.”
