Product innovation company Product of the Year has carried out a survey into pet care, taking a closer look at the CBD market and its links to wellness among pet owners.
As a nation of animal lovers, we care deeply about the wellbeing of our pets.
In a bid to better understand the shape and depth of the pet health & wellness market, Product of the Year, the UK’s biggest survey of product innovation, carried out a series of polls to better understand what’s driving consumer demand in this space, leading to some interesting results…
Product of the Year and CBD
Conducted online in September 2022, UK pet owners were first asked what they were most concerned with when buying health and wellness products for their pets?
Their pet’s ‘anxiety’ and ‘bones+joints’ ranked joint first and second place on the list of concerns (receiving 33% of the votes each), while ‘digestive systems’ and ‘teeth’ came in third and fourth place with 17% and 16% of the votes respectively.
Mental health and wellbeing is also increasingly becoming a concern for pet owners.
In an attempt to better understand a fast-emerging treatment/product in this space, Product of the Year delved into the pet CBD market.
They asked: ‘Have you ever tried a CBD product for your dog/pet and if so, which product have you tried?’
Of those that had tried it, CBD treats and chewies took top billing with 58% of the votes, CBD oil was not to be sniffed at either ranking in second place with 40%, CBD spray came in third with a modest 2%.
Pet CBD is steadily making a name for itself, with products like Incr-edibles CBD Dog Treats, True Leaf Hip & Joint Support Dental Sticks and NutriPaw Calming Dog Treats, as just three examples of products driving this category.
“Every year, petcare products do well at Product of the Year, often winning a number of awards”, said Helga Slater, MD, Product of the Year.
“These products answer the needs of pet owners and often reveal what we didn’t even know we needed.
“Innovation is something we look for among all the entrants and CBD products are a really good demonstration of this in the pet world right now.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the innovators that break through in this category in the upcoming awards.”
Now in its 19th year, Product of the Year’s winning products are chosen by more than 10,000 UK consumers (conducted independently by Kantar on behalf of POY) making it the nation’s biggest annual survey of product innovation.
The final deadline for entries is 26 September 2022.
