Students across the UK will be appraising their school exam results as their GCSE letters arrive on their doorsteps today.

For most the next question will be ‘What comes next?’ as they consider their career options.

While the media, marketing and advertising world may not feature high on the list of career options.

However, from creative agencies to adtech leaders, it is a thriving, fast moving and technologically advanced industry sector that offers considerable opportunities for young graduates.

Adland beckons for GCSE winners

Alex Uprichard, Managing Director at global brand agency IMA, said: “For many students, results day is less about the grades themselves and more about the pressure of what comes next.

“Whether they exceed expectations, fall short, or land right on target, the real challenge is matching subject strengths to interesting career paths.

“Advertising is rarely considered and often seen as something people “fall into” or as a London-only career option.

“In reality, the sector is thriving nationwide, with agencies offering opportunities for every skillset: creative, analytical, and strategic.

“At IMA, as one of the biggest agencies operating globally whilst sitting in the North, we want to break down those misconceptions.

“Our partnership with Brigshaw School through the Upriser programme helps students connect their academic capabilities with agency specialisms.

“Paid placements give them a taste of agency life, while apprenticeships offer routes to build a career alongside further education.

“We really want to drive home that for today’s school leavers, advertising isn’t just an industry for London or a happy accident; it’s an exciting, accessible path for everyone.”
