ITV Studios today announced the first wave of global sales for Mammoth Screen’s exciting new, original take on The Forsyte Saga, The Forsytes.
Originally commissioned by Masterpiece on PBS for US audiences, the six x 60 episode series is set to air there in 2026, but the period drama is already proving a hit with fans and press alike in the UK where audiences are watching it on Channel 5.
The Forsytes
In addition to Channel 5 for the UK and the Republic of Ireland, The Forsytes has been acquired by ABC for Australia, TVNZ for New Zealand, Virgin Media Ireland for the Republic of Ireland, Movistar Plus+ for Spain and Andorra, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, DR in Denmark, NRK in Norway, Tet for Latvia, HRT for Croatia, and HOT and YesTV for Israel.
Viasat World has secured a pan-regional deal for its Epic Drama channel across 22 countries in Central and Eastern Europe and the Baltics, and Virgin Atlantic has secured the inflight entertainment premiere of the series.
Tom Clark, EVP Global Sales & Commercial Strategy, Global Partnerships ITV Studios, said, “We are thrilled to bring this bold, new reimagining of the celebrated Forsyte Saga novels to international audiences. From the brilliant creative team behind Poldark, The Forsytes is already generating significant buzz with UK audiences, and is proving to be another global hit.”
Featuring a stellar ensemble cast and already commissioned for a second season while season one was in production, The Forsytes is planned as a returning series to captivate audiences year after year.
Starring Francesca Annis, Jack Davenport, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Moyer, and Eleanor Tomlinson, The Forsytes follows the Forsyte family as all their secrets are laid bare for a whole new generation in this bold reimagining of John Galsworthy’s iconic tale.
Inspired by the original Nobel Prize winning novels, the drama chronicles the lives of the wealthy upper-class Forsyte family in the rapidly changing world of 1880s London, portraying a family bound together by duty, until that duty conflicts with matters of the heart.
As their story unfolds, intense infatuations, divided loyalties and scandalous secrets will tear up the rulebook they have all learnt to live by.
But the question is, when you are a Forsyte, can you ever follow your heart? Or must duty, reputation and convention always win the day?
Channelling contemporary themes of love, sex, ambition and power, and set against an epic canvas, this fresh new adaptation will transform the world of the Forsytes and is guaranteed to get everyone talking.
The Forsytes, from Mammoth Screen part of ITV Studios, and Masterpiece, is directed by Meenu Gaur, Annetta Laufer, and Andy Newbery.
It also stars Tom Durant Pritchard, Jamie Flatters, Naomi Frederick, Don Gallagher, Millie Gibson, Danny Griffin, Susan Hampshire OBE, Owen Igiehon, Eleanor Jackson, Justine Moore, Joshua Orpin, and Josette Simon OBE.
