Award-winning social media agency, Born Social, has created a social campaign for global hotel and lifestyle brand, citizenM, to encourage people back to its hotels as restrictions begin to ease around holidays and travel.

Campaign for citizenM

The campaign features a series of stop-motion animations that capture some of the moments we’ve missed most from the days of less restricted travel; from waking up in a luxury hotel room to discovering new cities and taking in cultural attractions.

Having carved out a brand niche as a ‘misfit among boring hotels’, citizenM was destined to do things differently and this new campaign creates a surrealist world that celebrates holidaying in all its glory.

Quirkiness is at the centre of a series of Monty Pythonesque animations, including: an astronaut marching around the globe, a giant shell with arms stretched out falling from the sky and a pillow sprouting a cityscape scene.

Hannah Penhall, Account Director at Born Social, said: “It was great working with citizenM on revamping and redefining their social – it’s been a dream for the whole team!

“The level of collaboration between agency and client made for a truly creative partnership.

“Having seen their channels come to life with this new style proved that being bold and pushing uniqueness is essential to cut through a saturated hospitality market and, most importantly, it’s what speaks to the citizenM citizens.”

CitizenM opened its first hotel in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in 2008, launching the brand with one key purpose – to disrupt the traditional, stale hotel industry.

Pythonesque: Hotel brand CitizenM is adding its usual creative twist on a campaign.

Over a decade later, they’ve expanded globally launching and operating 21 hotels in 14 cities around the world.

The hotel brand has become known for its commitment to art, including large-scale commissions and original facade artwork, such as the striking mural of Parisian pedestrians covering the entire front facade created by the artist Julian Opie in Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Maurice Ajanaku,  Marketing Director, citizenM, said: “From the creative strategy to the creative output, the team at Born have flawlessly translated our brand identity to strong social-first content that marries citizenM’s love for art and community.”
