Football Firsts: Defoe and Deeney return with podcast series 2

Former Tottenham and England striker, Jermain Defoe has reunited with former Premier League striker Troy Deeney to reveal more of their footballing firsts in the latest series of their BBC 5 Live podcast, Defoe & Deeney Football Firsts, available on the Players Channel on BBC Sounds.

Football Firsts

The 12-part series, which drops weekly from today (Monday 4 December), sees the pair reveal the ups and downs of life as a Premier League footballer.

They’ll be chatting about some of the funniest, daunting and anxiety-inducing times at the beginning of their careers, including their ‘first’ experiences of the playing on telly, hitting the headlines, being dropped from the first team, and being booed.

Other footballing first encounters include a players’ first transfer, the first time football broke their heart, missing simple goal opportunities and their first football trip abroad.

On the launch of the new series, Defoe said: “I’ve really enjoyed doing another a new series of Football Firsts with Troy, and giving fans an insight into what it’s really like being a professional player.

“It’s been nostalgic talking about some of the firsts in this series and I can’t wait for the listeners to hear them.”

Deeney added: “I am very happy to pick up season 2 with Jermain. We enjoyed making the first series together and the amount of love we got just walking down the street from the public really drove us to continue the show.

“This new series will really take it up a level, revealing more stories that you’ve never heard before, while being humorous and vulnerable at the same time.

“We covered a lot of ground in these episodes and we’re sure you will enjoy listening to them.”

Defoe and Deeney Football Firsts will be available every Monday starting from 4 December on the Players Channel on BBC Sounds.
