BBC suspends filming of Eastenders and cuts schedule


The BBC has announced it is to suspend filming of Eastenders amid the coronavirus outbreak.

It also intends to reduce the number of episodes it broadcasts each week to just two.

The broadcaster posted the announcement on its Twitter feed a short time ago.

Eastenders reduced

“News: “In light of the spread of Covid-19, filming on will be postponed until further notice…”, it said.

“We have also taken the decision to reduce the amount of episodes we broadcast each week to two.”
Episodes will now air on Mondays, 8pm and Tuesdays, 7.30pm.”

All productions postponed

The BBC also issued the following statement on its Continuing Dramas and Coronavirus:

“In light of the spread of Covid-19, after much consideration, it has been decided that filming on all BBC Studios continuing dramas will be postponed until further notice.

“The decision was made after the latest government update.

“We will continue to follow the latest news and advice from the World Health Organisation and public health organisations.”

Many production houses around the world have suspended or cancelled their filming schedules within the past few days.

Major Hollywood producers have indicated they will make their upcoming productions available online or via streaming services.
